joni is Now B Corp Certified

Posted by Team joni on

We are so excited to share that joni is now a B Corp! As a purpose-, mission-, and benefit-driven brand, this means so much to us. Here's why:

B Corp certification represents a validation of our journey and a reminder of the responsibility that comes with it. We don’t want to be good, we want to be exceptional. This certification is proof that we’re on the right path.

Becoming B Corp certified is about embracing a commitment to the values on which joni was founded. Now we’re part of a global community that’s working together to change the world through a socially and environmentally conscious economy.

Let’s dig into what B-Corp is, what it means for us, and, most importantly, what does it mean for you.

What is a B Corp?

The B in B Corp stands for Benefit for all. B Lab is the nonprofit organization who certifies B Corps and it does that by measuring a company’s entire social and environmental impact.

The process to become a B-Corp isn’t easy, and that’s the point. Companies that pursue this certification undergo a rigorous assessment that evaluates their impact on workers, the community, governance, the environment, and customers.

As part of this, companies must complete an impact assessment, meet legal requirements with governing documents, and undergo verification by B Lab.

As a globally recognized certification, becoming a B Corp makes a business become part of a collective that’s working together to create a new economy, one that supports all stakeholders, including workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment.

More than a Badge

At joni, B Corp certification aligns perfectly with our period equity mission, and our triple bottom line approach dedicated to people, the planet, and prosperity. The B Corp certification process gave us a way to measure this mission and approach, as well as a roadmap for continued improvements. And it gave us the opportunity to take a hard look at every aspect of our business. There were moments when making the right choice meant making the harder choice. But it was in those moments that we found our true purpose.

joni quote about becoming a b corp

“We launched joni as an impact brand in 2020 and have grown both our company and our impact significantly donating over 600,000 products to nonprofit partners. It was important to us that we hold ourselves to the highest standards when it came to the triple bottom line (people, profit and planet) and becoming B Corp certified is a big part of that.

We’re proud to bring our commercial period care to a global community invested in doing good, offering our dispensers, pads and tampons solutions to businesses of all sizes. We’re excited to continue to do our part to drive menstrual equity forward through innovation, sustainability and accessibility,”  Linda Biggs, joni CEO.

The Beginning Not the End

The B-Corp certification is not the end—it’s a new beginning. Every few years, we’re required to recertify—not just to maintain our score, but to surpass it. This ongoing commitment ensures that we’re always evolving, refining our practices, and striving to set new benchmarks for what it means to be a benefit corporation.

Whether it’s through our partnerships, our products, or our practices, we’re committed to driving global change and contributing to a more responsible global economy.

Making an Impact

B Corp certification measures impact in five main impact pillars: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment, and Customers.

joni B Corp pillars and values

Governance: joni is an impact-driven brand on a mission to make period equity possible. Creating an ecosystem of accessible period care guides everything we do.

Workers: The joni team is small but mighty. We provide a workplace where our employees can fulfill impact driven careers without sacrificing financial security.

Community: Our business model was designed to give. We give back 5% of all our revenues into our communities for period equity initiatives, from product donations to educational and community-building initiatives.

Environment: joni pads and tampons are certified organic, biodegradable, compostable, and free from harmful levels of toxins. We use closed-loop manufacturing processes, ensuring that any chemicals used during production are reused and recycled, and never dumped. We are committed to continually improving our current joni products and growing the line to support more options for body agency.

Customers: We have a closed-feedback loop with our customers meaning not only do we care about our customers, we care about what they think and how they use our products. We apply changes to our products based on customer feedback and develop new products based on demand. We also protect your data, and commit and comply with ethical advertising and communication standards.

Why B-Corp Matters for You

Anyone can claim to be doing good. But as a consumer, that B Corp certification logo on a product is a shortcut to third-party transparency and assurance that this brand is actually doing good. Your personal shopping choices go a long way in creating the kind of world you want to live in.
